The 5th Korea-Japan International Virginia Woolf Conference 2022 (8/19) (revised schedule)
Formed in March 2003, the Virginia Woolf Society of Korea is a non-profit academic organization consisting of 50 members who specialize in Virginia Woolf and modernist writers. The Society aims to promote the reading and discussion of Virginia Woolf’s works. The Society holds two annual conferences and publishes papers in two issues of the James Joyce Journal of Korea (June and December) in joint efforts with the James Joyce Society of Korea. An Executive Committee produces the Virginia Woolf Society of Korea Newsletter twice a year (April and October). The Society has established the “Ilgok Award” for outstanding papers on Woolf, encouraging the Woolf scholars to publish excellent critical essays. The Society has also served to bridge common readers of Korea to Virginia Woolf as well as modern British and American writers through giving lectures for common readers at a renowned museum (Total Museum) at Seoul every Wednesday since 2004. The members of the Society gather, read, and discuss not only Woolf’s works but also works—both literary and cultural—related to Woolf once a month; reading Woolf’s essays is the current project of the monthly meeting of the Society since 2008. The Society has already published several translations of Woolf’s novels and short stories into Korean, kindling the interest in Woolf in Korea.
