The First Biannual Conference of the VWSK
In Search for Woolf Again, the First Biannual Conference of the VWSK, was held at Kookmin University on April 26, 2003. Presentations on Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, Michael Cunningham’s The Hours and the film adaptation of The Hours were lively, interesting and informative. “The Extension of Meaning: From Mrs. Dalloway to the Two Versions of The Hours,” written and presented by Jung Kim, examined how Michael Cunningham affirms the lasting significance of Virginia Woolf as his inspiration, but also by creating the effect of a ‘literary symbiosis’ of his and Woolf’s novels. The conference also featured the screening of The Hours, and Myung-Hee Chung’s “Mrs. Brown Reading Mrs. Dalloway” further examined the issues related to intertexuality of Woolf and Cunningham. The Conference was sponsored by the Institute of Language and Literature of Kookmin University.
