The VWSK Goes to Moscow
VWSK founding ‘mother,’ Hee-Jin Park, was invited to present a lecture on “Translation of Virginia Woolf in Korea” at “Woolf Across Cultures,” an international Symposium held at the Russian State University in Moscow on June 27, 2003. The paper opens with the discussion of “Benjamin Lee Whorf’s proposition that our thinking system is controlled by the system, the so-called ‘language,’ and examines the noticeable characteristics of translations of Virginia Woolf in Korea, such as the qualification of the translators, the crucial problem of translation between non-related cultures.” Two more members of the VWSK attended the symposium.
